After art and design A level many years ago, I took a break from creative pursuits to study law and develop my legal practice. I returned to creative study a few years ago, taking a number of evening and summer adult education courses in London including Central St Martins and John Ruskin College. This eventually led to studying, part time, for a two year Fine Art certificate at The Art Academy. I graduate in July 2015.
I’m currently focusing on portraits and figurative work. In my work, I’m exploring themes of identity, purpose and ‘otherness’. I have a particular interest in depicting stories from the African diaspora. I have a tendancy to use bold vibrant colour, dynamic compositions, pattern and rich textures.
I love the versatility of oil paint as a medium and I’m continuing in my aim to use stronger, more dynamic mark making and being intentional about each mark.
I’m also interested in exploring colour, texture and pattern through various print making techniques.
